About Dr. Matt richardson
It’s time for something new.
If you’ve spent years feeling at odds with your body, you know how exhausting it can be. The planning, the tracking, the constant comparisons can take over your day.
Imagine eating without guilt. Moving your body because it feels good, not as punishment. Looking in the mirror without immediately picking yourself apart. It may feel far away right now, but you deserve that kind of peace. With the right support, it’s possible to feel at home in your body and more at ease with yourself.
I’m Dr. Matt Richardson, a gay psychologist who helps men heal their relationship with food and their bodies. My goal is to offer a space where you can talk openly about what’s been weighing on you and be met with compassion, curiosity, and the tools to create lasting change.
How I work
We’ll face it together.
Therapy with me is about creating a space where you can finally set things down and stop carrying them alone. We’ll take the time to understand how your past shaped the way you see yourself, while also focusing on what matters most in your life right now. Some sessions will feel deep and challenging, others lighter with moments of clarity or even laughter. All of it is part of the process of healing and growth.
My role is to walk alongside you with compassion and honesty. I’ll listen closely, ask questions that help you see yourself with new perspective, and offer feedback in ways that feel both supportive and real. This isn’t about being fixed. It’s about feeling seen, building trust in yourself, and creating changes that feel lasting and meaningful.

Therapy with me is …
Warm, supportive, and collaborative – a space where you feel seen, respected, and understood.
Interactive and engaging – I’ll show up with you in the work, ask thoughtful questions, and provide honest reflections.
A space for deeper exploration – where we connect the dots between your past experiences, present struggles, and relational patterns.
An investment in yourself – a space to prioritize your growth, well-being, and the changes you want to see in your life.
Specialized and expert care – with advanced training and a focus on eating disorders, men’s issues, and LGBTQ+ therapy, I offer a space for deeper, transformative work.
Flexible and tailored to you – we’ll work together in ways that reflect your unique needs, goals, and pace.
Fat positive, non-diet, and weight-neutral – a place to heal your relationship with your body and food, free from judgment or pressure to change your appearance.
Focused on lasting growth – helping you build insight, tools, and self-compassion to create meaningful change in your life.
Therapy with me isn’t …
A weight-loss space – I don’t focus on appearance or diet goals and fully reject diet culture and weight stigma.
A quick or easy fix – real, lasting change takes time, effort, and a willingness to dig deeper.
One-size-fits-all – I don’t follow a rigid or manualized approach; our work will reflect who you are and what you need.
Just about symptom relief – we’ll go beyond surface-level solutions to explore the patterns and dynamics keeping you stuck.
Focused only on “fixing” you – you’re not a problem to solve; therapy is about understanding, accepting, and creating meaningful change.
Emotionally avoidant – we won’t ignore the uncomfortable or vulnerable parts of your experience, because that’s where healing happens.
A passive experience – I’m not a silent observer, and therapy requires active participation to create real growth.
For those seeking short-term solutions without connection – the therapeutic relationship is central to how I work, and lasting progress comes from trust and collaboration.
